Betfred Championship Round Up | Round 7

Round 7 of the Betfred Championship kicked off with a mouth-watering clash at the Olympic Legacy Park in Sheffield on Friday.

Wakefield made the trip to South Yorkshire, with just two points in the points difference splitting the two sides after their perfect six from six starts. It would be Trinity who got off to a quick start with Josh Griffin opening the scoring, with Luke Gale, Max Jowitt and Jay Pitts all adding tries - meanwhile Matty Dawson-Jones scored Sheffield’s only first half try.

Wakefield ensured to keep their 100% winning record with two second half tries, including one from the current Championship top try scorer Lachlan Wamsley - in their 36-10 success.

On Saturday, Toulouse Olympique made the trip across to West Yorkshire, where they faced Dewsbury Rams. The Rams shocked many, as they took a lead into half-time. Despite falling to a Jake Shorrock try early on, Dewsbury ran in three tries and added a drop-goal on the hooter to impressively lead 19-10.

Two Toulouse tries early in the second half, would then put the visitors ahead. However, a Dewsbury penalty quickly gave the hosts the lead back. But three further Toulouse tries, including another from Shorrocks, saw the French side eventually depart with the two points.

Barrow Raiders came from behind to defeat Batley Bulldogs. The Raiders trailed 14-12, but 12 unanswered second half points saw them move above their opponents in the table.

Widnes and Featherstone both registered home wins. The Vikings edged a closely fought contest, with just two points splitting Allan Coleman's men and Doncaster. Meanwhile in West Yorkshire, Featherstone recorded their seventh win of the season with a home success over Halifax.

Connor Wynne starred for Rovers, with the back scoring four tries to continue his great try scoring form.

Whitehaven produced a very strong first half display to defeat the York Knights, racing into a 26-0 lead in the first forty. The Knights fought back in the second half, but Whitehaven proved too strong in the 36-16 contest at the LNER Community Stadium.

Seven different try scorers saw Bradford Bulls win on the road at Swinton Lions. The Bulls showed threat across the park and struck through Zac Fulton inside the opening 15 minutes. Two tries shortly after showed their dominance and this continued throughout, as Bradford end the weekend in fifth position in the Betfred Championship table.
